A Methodist chapel was certified in Great Bedwyn on a site in Church Street in the village in 1810. In the 1830s Mr John May offered a farmhouse (no longer standing) in Frog Lane to house preachers. Census Sunday in 1851 recorded 150 attendees at the morning service and 140 in the afternoon. This chapel was replaced by the purpose-built chapel that opened in Brown's Lane in 1875.
