Quakers, Stanton St. Quintin

There were Quakers living in the parish in the later 17th century and a burial ground at Lower Stanton was possibly in use from 1658. The last burial was John Richings on 9th December 1785. The burial ground is about 150 yards distant from the Stanton to Avil road and to the north west of a pond where the two roads from Avil and from Seagry meet. It is about 10 yards square and in the 1870s it was said that there were old defaced tablets, including one built into a wall. It is now a garden.
