After the Parliamentarians took power a puritan nominee was put in place in the parish church. His name was John Legg. The house of Robert Grove, Presbyterian, was certified at Ferne in 1672. The Puritan Peter Ince died at Ferne House in 1683. He was chaplain and preached to a free church held within the house. He had also preached at Berry Wood Copse in 1663, and at Ferne House by 1669. A barn at Berrycourt was also used. A house in Nether Dunhead was certified as a Presbyterian nonconformist meeting house in 1689. It was owned by Robert Grove. In 1698 another meeting house owned by John Gould was certified. The names of David Minty and George Blake were also mentioned. The house of Sarah Strong was also certified at the same time with David and George too. George Blake owned a house in South Newton.
