In 1701 the house of Walter Tanner was licensed for worship. In 1800 the house of Samuel Chappell, a yeoman, was licensed for Independents; in 1815 a recently erected house was licensed for Independents with a list of six names, Samuel Chapelle, Charles Pinnell, James Ayliffe, William Isaac, William Buckwell, and George Arthurs. It is endorsed by Mr Safferee, who was however a Baptist minister. This house may have been intended as a chapel as there is no occupier listed.
