Baptist Chapel, Chapmanslade

The Baptist Chapel lies to the north of the main road. A Baptist minister, Daniel Grey, came to Chapmanslade in the 19th century and preached and converted many. The small but growing group of people met in what was called 'a wool house' until 1791 when a new chapel was built. There was a Sunday school attached to the chapel which seems to have been well attended. However, the congregation grew smaller and smaller over the years and the chapel continued to fall into disrepair. The building was considered likely to collapse so in the early 20th century the Baptists once again joined up with the Independent chapel.
The Baptist chapel later became a house. In 1870 a day school was built to go alongside the chapel but it was not successful and it closed in 1871.
