Independent Chapel, Ogbourne St. George

In November 1818 a 'dwelling house and garden' in the occupation of James Wilmot was certified for Independent worship. In April 1823 a building in the possession and occupation of William Bayly was also so certified. An Independent chapel was built on the eastern side of the Swindon to Marlborough road, at its junction with the road to Aldbourne, and was certified for worship in July 1842. The 1851 census counted 75 people attending afternoon service at the chapel and 71 in the evening. The Independent chapel is mentioned in a directory of 1855 but by 1859 there is no mention of an Independent chapel.
