Non-conformists, Orcheston

Non-conformists were present in Orcheston St. Mary and in 1765 a house was certified for dissenters’ meetings and in 1801 another for Baptist meetings; however there was said to be no non-conformists in the parish in 1783. In 1864 there was no meeting house and the 32 Baptists and four Methodists who lived in the parish presumably attended chapels elsewhere, probably in Shrewton or Tilshead.
