Mount Zion Chapel, West Kington

By the mid 19th century the Baptist church at Nettleton was divided in its attitude to doctrine, with some members having Calvinistic tendencies, and as there were no Sunday morning services John Russell, a Calvinist, asked the supply ministers to preach on a grassy bank at West Kington. From 1864 a nearby cottage was used in bad weather and after some years the meeting at West Kington made a complete break with the chapel at Nettleton. A chapel was built in 1882 on the side of a valley, opposite Latimer Farm. The builder was Charles Brookman, whose descendents remained associated with the chapel until at least the late 1960s. The chapel remains open today.
