A house and garden occupied by Micaiah West was licensed for Baptist worship in 1820. The chapel is built of coursed rubble with a rendered gable front and pointed arch windows. It opened in 1823 and a schoolroom was built c.1843. The interior was refitted and the windows altered in 1889. Open air baptisms took place in the 19th century. By the mid 19th century the church at Nettleton was divided in its attitude to doctrine, with some members having Calvinistic tendencies, and as there were no Sunday morning services, John Russell, a Calvinist, asked the supply ministers to preach on a grassy bank at West Kington. After some years the meeting at West Kington made a complete break with the chapel at Nettleton. The chapel at Nettleton remains open.
