Non conformists from Allington attended a Presbyterian meeting at nearby Newton Tony in the 17th century and in 1668 four non-conformists are listed at Allington, rising to eleven by 1674 and seventeen in 1676. By 1669 four houses were in use for meetings and one of the preachers was John Crofts who was buried at Allington in 1695. In the 19th century other dissenters held open air meetings on the south downs in the 1860s.
