The Skilling family of Draycot FitzPayne were presented for recusancy during the 17th century. Priests stayed in the house and there may have been a small chapel there. They had conformed to the Anglican Church by the end of the 17th century. In Oare the Pontins were recusants who did not conform until the late 18th century. After the death of Simon Pontin in 1783 no Catholics lived in the parish.
