Non-conformists, Wilcot

There was little evidence of dissent in the parish during the 17th century, though some members of the Chandler family may have emigrated to America as Quakers and George Fox held meetings near Oare in 1673 and 1681. During the 18th and early 19th centuries various dissenting meetings were registered in the parish. In Wilcot, Independent meetings were registered in 1777, 1784, 1786 and 1824. In 1783 a Baptist family lived in the parish and a Baptist meeting was registered in Wilcot in 1787.
