Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Oare

In Oare the lack of a parish church encouraged nonconformity. In 1805 an Independent meeting was registered, and in 1833 one of Independent Methodists. In 1841 a Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built which, ten years later, had a larger congregation than Wilcot parish church. The people of Oare may also have attended the Primitive Methodist chapel built on Huish Hill in 1863.
