Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Bulkington

The Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1816. It is a very small stone chapel with a plastered front. In the 1830s it had 50-60 members and neighbouring Keevil also had a chapel with a congregation of approximately 40. The only surviving minute book starts in 1920. In 1924 Mr Albert Brimble was the chapel steward, organist and trustees’ secretary. In the 1930s he took on the role of treasurer as well. In 1965, when he was 82 years old, Mr Brimble became unwell and was unable to carry on. This resulted in a falling of attendance at services and they had to be discontinued. At a meeting it was agreed that the chapel should be sold and the money given to the Melksham Methodist Circuit. The chapel was sold for £300 in 1966 and became the village hall.
