A church was first formed in 1827 and became part of the Brinkworth Circuit. 1832 saw premises at Hook licensed to be used as a chapel, superseded by a house belonging to Richard Wolford which was licensed in 1837. A chapel was built in 1840, which then had to be surrendered to Lord Bolingbroke at valuation as he claimed it was on his land. 1886 a small iron chapel was built, and then extended three years later, the debt paid off by 1907. But the village was still described by one Primitive Methodist minister as ‘somewhat derelict materially,’ although the chapel stayed in use until 1964. 1887 saw a site in Hay Lane acquired, built on and licensed, before going on to become part of the Swindon Circuit. In 1964 a service was being held once a month.
