Non-conformist

There has not been a strong tradition of non-conformity in the parish. The returns to the visitation queries of 1783 reported no papists or chapelry, no dissenter of any denomination though there were ‘some who too frequently absent themselves from the public worship of God’. In 1824 the house of James Watson was registered for religious worship by group and in 1825 the house of A. Jee was registered but there were no dissenters in the parish by 1851. No chapel was built.
