Non-conformist, Chute

It is thought several parishioners, who were presented between 1611 and 1632 for failing to attend church or communion, may have been popish recusants. One recusant was said to be living in the parish in the late 17th century. In 1861 a house was certified as a dissenters meeting house. Methodists had a certified meeting house in the parish in 1818, 1823 and 1838, 2 of these houses were at Hatchett.

A chapel was built between Cadley and |Lower Chute in 1844. On census Sunday in 1851, 58 attended service, with 76 in the evening. The chapel closed in 1990. A small corrugated iron chapel was built for Primitive Methodist use in 1879, but closed in 1927. A meeting house, for Baptists, was certified in 1825 and 2 houses in Chute were certified Particular Baptists, 1 in 1835 and 1 in 1836.
