The Brethren

The Brethren seem to have originated in Germany in 1708 and had moved to the United States of America in 1719-29 where they were also known as 'Tunkers'. A group started in the Corsham area in the mid-nineteenth century holding meetings at Pockeridge lodge. In 1856 Mr Ederidge gave a building and land at Corshamside (Neston) where a graveyard was created. Another group was holding meetings in Corsham itself in a cottage at Pickwick. In 1903 the Corshamside hall was enlarged and both Neston and Corsham Brethren used it. In 1925 they bought the Station Road Church used by the Primitive Methodists for £250. In 1939 they are recorded as being in Hastings Road.
