In 1669 there were 30-40 Quakers meeting at John Matraver's house and in the early 18th century 4 houses were certified as Quaker meeting houses. However in 1715 there were said to be none in the town and most of the Quakers had probably become Baptists. A meeting house opened at Westbury in 1943 and moved to Trowbridge in 1944 with twice monthly meetings in the deacon's vestry of Tabernacle church. There is no meeting in the town now (2003) although there is a meeting house at Bradford on Avon, 3 miles away.
