The Anabaptists licensed a meeting house in 1672 but this soon lapsed. Strict Baptists met in the town from c.1814 to 1818 and beyond. In 1851 it was recorded that 50 Particular Baptists met in the morning on Census Sunday and that 54 met in the afternoon. A room was registered in March 1859 but there was no resident pastor and the cause declined around 1864. There was a revival in 1868 and the room was re-registered. This room was replaced by a chapel called Zoar in 1876 on the north side of St. Martin's. The chapel closed in 1921.
