Chapel of St. Nicholas, Marlborough Castle, Marlborough

This chapel existed by 1227 and the dedication to St. Nicholas is first mentioned in 1241. It stood within the inner bailey of the castle and was served by its own chaplain or vicar. As the castle was often in royal occupation Kings and Queens would have worshipped here. The last mention of the chapel is in 1417 when the last chaplain was appointed. It seems likely that it fell out of use shortly after this.
