Salem Baptist Chapel, Devizes

Founded in 1837 by George Wessley, pastor of the Old Baptist Church, and some of his congregation, who had left because of divisions in that church. They first worshipped in an old tobacco factory and built the present chapel in 1838. In 1851 the average congregation was 75. In 1895 they rejoined the Old Baptist Church and moved back to the Maryport chapel. Salem Chapel was then used by the Open Brethren and was sold to them in 1929.
