This movement was founded by five former Wesleyan preachers and was based on the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), a Swedish scientist and mystical philosopher. In Salisbury they first registered the Freemason's Hall in George Yard in 1825 with John Harbin as minister. In 1828 a chapel in Crane Street was registered and in 1831 there were meetings in Endless Street and, later in the year, George Yard. There may have been more than one group in Salisbury and in 1834 a house in St. Edmund's parish was registered. In the 1840s a congregation began to meet in Castle Street and in 1851 there were 100 free sittings at the meeting place with an average attendance of 50. In 1878 a congregation met in Antelope Yard, Catherine Street, but had gone by 1894.
