Chapel of St. Helen, Cricklade

This Saxon chapel was probably on the site of the holy stone that overlooked the early crossing point on the river Thames and it would have come under the mother church of Cricklade. It was given as a gift to Gloucester Abbey and was later annexed to South Cerney Church, which was also in the possession of Gloucester Abbey. The last known presentation of a vicar was in 1528 and in 1786 it was noted that the chapel was 'destroyed'.
