The chapel was built on a small plot of land that had been bought for £4, and opened in 1848. It was part of the Calne Circuit of Primitive Methodists but relied largely on lay preachers. At times the numbers attending were erratic and it was closed for some periods of time. After one such closure it was cleaned and redecorated by a team of volunteers, including boy scouts, and re-opened in 1934. It flourished for a while, drawing larger congregations, but by the late 1940s numbers had dwindled again. The chapel was closed and sold in 1950 and converted into a house in 1951.
