Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Aldbourne

Houses were licensed for Methodist worship in 1772, 1798 and 1802, while in 1783 there was said to be no meeting although 10 to 12 people met to hear readings by a Methodist weaver. A chapel was built in Lottage Road in 1807, being replaced in 1844 by a new chapel on the same site. In 1851 a congregation of 250 was recorded for both afternoon and evening service and there was a Sunday School in the latter part of the 19th century. In 1968 the chapel was replaced by a new hall in Lottage Road that was used as both a church and a Methodist Youth Centre. The Wesleyans joined with the Primitive Methodists to form Aldbourne Methodist Church here. In 2004 there are 10.30 and 18.00 Sunday services (plus a Sunday club for primary aged children) and at 10.30, Rock Solid (ecumenical) for 11-14 years.
