Robert Rowswell, the ejected former vicar of Hilmarton, preached in Lyneham and Clack. In 1672 he was licensed to preach at his house in Clack.
John Cennick, the disciple of George Whitefield, preached at Lyneham in 1739 and around 1741 - 43 a society was formed there. Originally this society was regarded as an off-shoot of Whitefield's Tabernacle. The society may have moved towards congregationalism by 1773 when a licence was granted to a group of Independents at Lyneham.
