It would seem the the Primitive Methodists had been holding meetings, possibly out of doors, in 1838 or earlier, as in January 1839 they were given a meeting house certificate. This was a chapel that was owned and occupied by the Primitive Methodist Connexion. The chapel may have been fairly small as in 1844 the house of William Snook was licensed for worship and in 1847 a new chapel was built to the south west of the Baptist Chapel. On census Sunday in 1851 there were 21 people at morning service, 39 in the afternoon, and 65 in the evening. Sunday evening services were still held in 1974.
