In 1821 a house at Ram Alley, occupied by William Dash, was certified for Independent Methodist worship. Shortly after this a chapel was built at Eastcourt and was certified in 1822, when it was described as the 'new erection called the Wesleyan Chapel'. The chapel proved very popular and on Census Sunday in 1851 there were three services with an average congregation of 119 each. The chapel at Eastcourt closed in 1906 and a new one was opened in the High Street. Unlike many non-conformists village chapels this one continued in use through the 20th century.
