One date worth adding here: the civil parish of Imber was abolished on 1 April 1991 and merged with Heytesbury (the parish council is now Heytesbury, Imber and Knook). The village name persists on Ordnance Survey mapping (grid reference ST965485), and the 1961 census recorded a parish population of 0. What ended in 1991 was the administrative parish, not the place itself: the name, the church of St Giles and the site remain.
