This building has been an artist studio and bronze foundry since it was bought at auction by the sculptor Richard Cowdy in 1973, he bought it for £3,600. He made the bronze pigs of Calne, the Sheep sculpture outside Sainsburys, the bronze calf in Chippenham, and the bronze pyramid in Devizes, as well as sculptures for, what was then called, the John Bentley School. He was joined by the painters Helen Simmonds and Lewis Griffiths in 1999, the building is a series of artist studios and there is still a small foundry. Comment added 2023 |
