Wiltshire folk arts

The Folk Arts section contains information on Traditional Songs, Biographies, Folk Plays and Folk Events in the Wiltshire area. We are still adding material to this section and would be grateful to receive any additional information on traditional Wiltshire songs, singers, plays and players. Alfred Williams published 438 songs in the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard between 15th October 1915 and 26th August 1916. He published 259 songs and some fragments in Folk Songs of the Upper Thames in 1923. The numbers on the database are greater because they reflect duplication of titles when Williams collected them from more than one source although the texts are usually identical in each version listed.
