Notes

A Church of England school was established at Bemerton on the south side of Lower Road in 1846. By 1859 there were between 60 and 70 children being taught in 2 rooms. In 1870 the school united with the National Society and in 1870 the school was rebuilt, chiefly financed by the Earl of Pembroke and other local promoters. The accommodation available increased from 128 to 195. In 1902 an infants' school was erected and the toatal accommodation became 253 but in 1912 there were more children than there were places and by 1915 some children were being taught in the parish hall. In 1921 the average attendance was 252 but by 1924 an HMI inspection found the premises to be unsatisfactory.

The school was transferred to Salisbury Education Authority in 1927 and the mixed and infants' departments were amalgamated. Overcrowdinding continued until 1933 when the senior children were transferred to Fisherton Anger Council School. After that the school had accommodation for 200 juniors and infants and in 1944 it became an aided school. In 1955 there were 185 pupils on the register. It became a first school in 1972 after local education reorganisation in Salisbury. In 2002 there were 129 pupils aged 4 - 7 years.
