Originally built as an Independent Chapel, the Bethel Chapel, around 1787. After a few years this closed and was purchased and re-opened by the Rev. Thomas Watkins of Bath. In 1847 Joseph Rawlings took over as Minister when the chapel was dilapidated and the congregation was both small and poor. He restored the chapel in 1849 but the congregation was never large. Rawlings died in 1866 and shortly after this the chapel was made over to Lady Huntingdon's Connection. In 1880 it was transferred from them to the Wilts and East Somerset Congregational Union. It did not become part of the United Reformed Church in 1972 or the United Church in 1976 and remains an Independent congregation.
