A chapel was opened in Milford Street in 1852 and became a member of the United Free Churches. The congregation were mainly shopkeepers and businessmen with a few professionals. In 1878 a schoolroom was built and in 1880 the chapel was said to hold 800 but acoustics, lighting and ventilation were poor. A new building was begun in 1896 and was opened in 1897. Designed by W.H. Dinsley it is in brick with stone facings, could accommodate 450 and had a school hall and seven other rooms. After the Second World War the congregation declined and by 1958 there were only 81 members. The chapel closed later that year and the congregation tranferred to the Methodist Church in St. Edmund's Church Street. In 2003 the chapel in Milford Street in a nightclub.
