Notes

The school opened on 8th January 1958 for all pupils aged 11 years and over who did not go to the grammar schools in nearby local towns. All pupils aged over 11 years were transferred from the two local all age schools and from schools in six local villages. Initially there were 279 pupils and 13 staff. Numbers rose year by year and the provision of various facilities increased. The school was re-organised as a comprehensive in 1972 and was renamed Wootton Bassett School. Numbers increased and new buildings were erected as needed but at the end of the 1990s it was evident that a new school was needed.

This was built as a PFI partnership and was opened by the Princess Royal on 30th September 2002. The catchment area is Wootton Bassett, Broad Town, Clyffe Pypard, Lydiard Millicent, Tockenham, Shaw and Lyneham and in 2002 there were 1410 students aged between 11 and 18 years.
