In 1923 St. Mary's Girls' School became a mixed school for children over 7 years, under headmaster H.T. Hosking, when the boys from St. Sampson's were transferred there. In 1954 St. Mary's parish hall was rented to provide extra accommodation for the children who, in 1955, totalled 185, aged from 8 to 15. In the 1950s W.J. McKanan-Jones took over as headmaster and in 1957 there were 238 children, including older children from Latton, at the school. The school was replaced in 1959 by the newly built Cricklade Church of England Controlled School for primary school age children. Older pupils, from 11 to 15 years, remained at St. Mary's and were later transferred to the secondary school at Purton.
