Notes

Began in 1912 when a co-educational grammar school (f.1897) in the Victoria Technical School building was split into single sexes. The girls remained at the Technical School and other sites in the town were also used. In 1932 a purpose built school opened in Gloucester Road where some girls had been taught in huts. On 14th April 1969 the girls and boys high schools became the Combined High Schools which closed at the end of the Summer term 1974 with the schools re-opening as the John of Gaunt School in August 1974.
