Church of St. Barnabas, Beanacre, Melksham Without

The site for the church was given by Lord Methuen and the Hon. Paul Sandford Methuen in 1885, the dated foundation stone is pictured here, and the church was built in 1886. There seems to have been no Anglican place of worship in Beanacre before that although there had been a private chapel at the Manor House from c.1500. The church has a chancel, nave and a north porch while there is a gabled bell-cote at the west end of the nave. It is in the style of the 13th century, built of coursed rubble stone. A church room was later added to the south side. The 14th century font came from the Church of St. Michael at Melksham and the the church is a chapel of ease to Melksham.
