Notes

Founded in 1823 mainly by Independents who, had seceded from Morgan's Hill Chapel and were occupying The Grove Meeting House. In 1842 they were joined by Baptists who had seceded from the Old Baptist Chapel in St. Margaret's Street and shortly after this the whole congregation became Baptist. They flourished during the second half of the 19th century and used the Grove Meeting House as a sunday school from 1873 until 1939 when the whole congregation moved back to The Grove. The Zion Chapel was demolished in the 1960s.
