Notes

Derry Hill only became established as a nucleated settlement in the 18th century and a church was built for Derry Hill, Bowood and Pewsham in 1839-40. Built to a design by T.H. Wyatt and D. Brandon, it is in dressed stone in the Late Perpendicular style. There is a wide nave with a small sanctuary, and a west tower with a needle spire; the latter provided by the 3rd Lord Lansdowne at a cost of £111.10.0d (£111.50). Of the 556 seats in the church 400 were free. A glebe house was also built and a perpetual curate, known as a vicar, was appointed. The church originally covered Derry Hill, Bowood, Pewsham and Sandy Lane but in 1864 Sandy Lane was transferred to the new parish of Chittoe. An organ was provided c.1862.

Improvements to the church in the 20th century included re-seating the nave in 1936, building choir stalls in 1953-4 (the choir had previously sung from the gallery), and general repairs in 1961-2. In the latter the stone roof tiles were replaced with slate. In 1983 a new vicarage was built in the garden of the glebe house. The vicarage was united with that of Bremhill and Foxham in 1994 with one vicar covering both parishes. The parish registers from 1840 (baptisms and burials) and 1842 (marriages), other than those in current use are held in the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office.
