It was said that a church was urgently needed at Bulford Camp in 1912 and the Bishop of Salisbury appealed for funds for this in 1914. The onset of the First World War interupted this plan and it was not until 1920 that building work on the church began, with the foundation stone being laid on 13th October. Designed by Blount and Williamson there were long delays and it was not until 23rd April 1923 that the nave was dedicated. The large rock-faced stone church was not completed until 1927 and it was dedicated to St. George by the Bishop of Salisbury on 3rd November 1927. The church had close connections with the Royal Artillery and many gifts of fabric and fittings came from past and present members. The substantial church has a chancel, a south vestry, transepts, an aisled nave, a west baptistery and a crossing tower. On 21st October 1973 there was a special service to mark the anniversary of the dedication.
