Notes

After gaining the permission of the landowner, the Marquess of Ailesbury, a small red brick and stone dressed chapel was built in Brown’s Lane in 1875 for the Great Bedwyn Methodist community. A tablet inside pays tribute to William and Elizabeth Evans “who for 40 years prayed, toiled and sacrificed for the Cause of God and the establishment of Methodism in the village”. They were instrumental in establishing the school room which was built adjoining the chapel between 1899-1922. The chapel closed in 1967.
