Notes

The only reference to Catholics in Alderbury or Whaddon before the 20th century is the prosecution in the 17th century of a Catholic called Greene for not attending church. It is probable that any Catholics would have travelled to Salisbury to attend church.

In 1955 the first mass in Alderbury is recorded at the home of the Thesiger family in Clarendon Road. Cedric Thesiger purchased a large wooden hut which he erected next to his home. Following repairs the new chapel was completed in 1958. In 1990 the refurbished Whaddon Methodist Chapel was purchased, becoming the Chapel of the Holy family, and has been in use since then.
