Notes

The Moravian School at East Tytherton closed in 1930 but an elementary British school had been established in the village in 1871 for 60 children. This building was to the west of the Moravian buildings and facing the road. In 1889 the average attendance was 40 under the schoolmistress, Miss Hanna. By the beginning of the 20th century the capacity of the school had been increased to 80 and the schoolmistress, Mrs Elizabeth Wilson, recorded an average attendance of 69 in 1907. Attendances remained between 60 and 70 until the Second World War but in 1955 this had dropped to 50 pupils. Numbers continued to decrease and the school closed in the second half of the 20th century.
