Notes

In 1840 the Primitive Methodists gained a title plot west of the upper High Street for building a Methodist chapel. There was much objection to this and consequently it had to be built at night over a stile when the farmer locked the gate into the field. Alterations were made in 1877 and in 1898 it was completely rebuilt in the lower High Street. The chapel closed in April 1981.
