Notes

In the 1820s a preacher from Broad Chalke helped to set up a Baptist congregation in the parish. In July 1826 a building was licensed for Particular Baptist worship in the names of John Lush, Thomas Scammell, Robert Pickford, James Humby, and Jesse Bugden. The Ebenezer Chapel was built in Loke Street in 1828, and licensed for worship in December 1829; in 1851 on Census Sunday it was served by a minister from Semley with morning, afternoon and evening congregations numbering 50, 110 and 60 respectively. The chapel was still used occasionally in 1983 but had closed by 1984.
