Set up by the Rev. S.S. Pugh, the minister of the New Baptist Chapel. By 1874 it was in Heathcote House, on The Green, providing a middle class education. The school was carried on by the Rev. Pugh's twin sons, Clarence and Cyril, and closed in 1919/20. The building was bought by Wiltshire County Council for a school that did not materialise and so Heathcote House was used as the head's house for the new Southbroom Senior School.
