Notes

Founded by the Misses Bennett and Miss Cole, who came to Devizes in 1886. Ada Bennett opened a school at 19 Long Street while the other two ladies opened one at Meath Lodge in Potterne Road. Later the schools moved to separate houses in St. John's Street and after that Ada's moved to 12 Market Place, pictured here. The schools were financially independent of one another and c. 1897-8 Miss Bennett and Miss Cole sold their school in St. John's Street to a Miss Horne, who renamed it the High School. Ada Bennett continued to run her school for both girls and boys until around 1914.
