This has been renamed The Barford Inn, although it had probably been known as The Dragon, or The Green Dragon, from the time of its building in the 17th century. The name comes from the Pembroke family of Wilton House who owned the manor. Their coat of arms included a green dragon from their origins in west Wales. In World War II the Wiltshire Yeomanry dedicated one of their tanks to the house, the tank had the Green Dragon on one side and Barford St. Martin on the other.
